Dear Cabinet Members,
You already know me (I hope!), but my name is Miles Worster and I'm running to be on the LCEC cabinet either as our Director of Outreach or our FIRST Experience Coordinator. This will be my fifth year being in the engineering club and my goal is to give back to the club and the community that have shaped who I am today.
As you know, this past year, I served as Media Lead, where I advertised and promoted our events, but most importantly, worked closely with Alyssa, our Outreach Director. Through this role, I gained a clear understanding of the relationships and collaboration required between cabinet members, especially in executing successful outreach efforts.
This year, I created a new program called RIDE, with the goal of introducing students to STEAM and LCEC who might not otherwise be interested in robotics. The response and impact of RIDE in just a year has been incredible. Multiple students from Crescenta Valley High School asked about the program and were very interested after seeing our work just once. At Worlds in Houston, an outreach judge was so inspired by RIDE that she collected our contact information hoping to start another team in North Carolina. Other FRC teams even recognized RIDE before we mentioned it, showing how far its reach has already spread.
I was also part of our Impact Team this year, helping write our script and presenting at both FRC competitions. It was extremely rewarding to win the Engineering Inspiration Award, which ultimately led us to the World Championships. I also stepped in to mentor one of our FLL teams when they lacked guidance, and that team went on to qualify for the State Championships. This year I created our overarching theme that relates to our outreach: Providing hope for our future, FIRST, and our community. This message guided our Impact video and presentation script, which played a key role in our success. I believe this theme truly captures what LCEC is all about, so if selected as Outreach Director, I want to continue that legacy.
Ultimately, I feel I owe something back to LCEC because of everything it has done for me. But more than that, I owe it to our community and that’s what outreach is about. That’s why I’m running.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
